1939-2022

Rosalie Grupenhoff passed away at the age of 82 on April 15, 2022, after a sudden illness.

My mother was born Mary Rosalia Fangmann on December 22, 1939 to Edward and Margaret Fangmann. She grew up in Baltimore with her two sisters Teresa and Ellen and went to Eastern High School.

After high school, she went to work for the government, eventually at the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD, outside of Baltimore. She worked there for nearly 40 years, primarily in labor relations.

She married David in 1971, and relocated to North East, MD where they raised their son Michael. She continued her career commuting to Baltimore, but also maintained a healthy work-life balance, spending a lot of time with her family.

After Michael left for college in 1992, she and David relocated back to the Baltimore area to be closer to family and friends. Their son moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1999, and when grandchildren arrived, Rose and Dave relocated to nearby Walnut Creek, CA in 2011.

Rose is survived by her sisters, Teresa and Ellen; her son Michael and daughter-in-law Stephanie; and grandchildren Matthew and Sarah.

My mother had a wonderful life full of beloved family, great friends, and lots of fun. Her family was her number one priority. She always said her husband Dave was "her rock". They both gave me a wonderful childhood and a good foundation that I could launch my own life from. She was an amazing Grandma who absolutely adored her grandchildren, and they love and miss her very much. She also loved traveling, and was always looking for the next place to visit. And in between all of that, she loved spending time with her good friends, first in Maryland, and then in California at Rossmoor. She was a great and loving mother to me, and served as a great role model for how to live a fun and fulfilling live while being a good person.

Rose donated to many charities and organizations, including:
